AUGUST 2006 |

This monthly feature displays trout flies from the past that just might be worth tying up once again. |

FIERY BROWN |
This is one of the oldest Irish patterns around, and a versatile one at that. Rogan's of Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal, went to great lengths to produce this colour. The original shade was apparently obtained by the use of stale Jack-Ass urine. The correct shade should have a hint of yellow shining through.
This is a pattern that is effective throughout the whole season. Whether fished for freshwater shrimp on the point, or Sedges in the middle or top dropper position. Tie a few up this winter and give them a try in 2004 |
Listed below is the original dressing, but the one favoured today omits the floss tag and replaces the natural tippets with ones dyed in hot orange. |
