GOLDEN OLIVE KATE MUDDLER

This months fly comes from Jimmy Millar from Edinburgh, Jimmy has been a regular contributor in Trout & Salmon magazine over the last few years and has created some superb variants based on traditional wet flies, this months pattern being just that.

HISTORY

Basically I wanted a muddled version of the standard Kate which had more of the reddish brown front end than could be achieved with normal coloured deer hair. I got a piece of your dyed WOI Golden Olive roe deer and this proved to be just the very colour that I was after for the pattern in mind. The golden olive partridge behind the head was added latterly and I think it helps bring out the colour of the deer hair even more. I normally use it in a size 10,always on the bob,in conjunction with intermediates or floating lines. As well as being a consistent pattern for wild brownies all over Scotland, it has also taken several Loch Lomond sea-trout since its conception two seasons ago.
